S.E.E.D PROGRAM

SKILL | EDUCATION | EMPLOYEE | DEVELOPMENT

The SEED program is designed for responsible TEENS ages 13-15 years to prepare them for working in the Snowsports industry. The Program will develop participants’ teamwork and job preparedness in a highly social, lively, and collaborative environment. This program will guide your teen for their first job at Waterville Valley while introducing them to the responsibilities and skills necessary to be a ski instructor at our resort. From learning the steps of how to teach a beginner or novice ski lesson to mountain safety and procedures. They will have an opportunity to shadow various Snowsports departments to see how different skilled and experienced instructors handle their class and the learning process. With successful completion of the SEED program, teens will receive a certificate and automatically get an invitation to come to our FREE ITC (Instructor Training Course) to be hired for a position in our Snowsports School for the next season.

BASIC OVERVIEW AND PROGRAM GOALS

Our focus is to teach your child the skills needed to be a ski/snowboard instructor/coach while also exploring other on-mountain departments throughout Waterville Valley Resort.

·  Learning the skills required for a job in Snowsports: training them on instruction, safety procedures, lesson structure, and teaching strategies. Training through progressions for various levels of coaching.

·  Touring all WV departments over the season, gaining an overview of ski industry work opportunities.

·  Becoming certified with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors America) AASI (American Association Snowboard Instructors). On-snow training and access to PSIA study materials.
