Family Guide to Waterville Valley Ski Resort

Amid the hustle & bustle of everyday life, it's important to slow down and appreciate the little things - especially when it comes to family. Like helping your child overcome a challenge, face their fears, or fall in love with a new adventure. These moments of growth may be fleeting, but the impact of such moments lasts a lifetime. Here at Waterville Valley Resort, we strive to create these important little moments. After all - we are New Hampshire's Family Resort. This guide will show you why.

Families who ski together stay together. Time on the slopes is exhilarating, but when you’re skiing with your family, you experience a whole new level of elation. But what happens when the little ones can’t shred at the same level as the older kids? That’s not a problem at Waterville Valley Resort, where families can always ski together thanks to the mountain's unique shape. Ski trails are dispersed across two peaks in the shape of a reverse-hourglass, with all trails ending at the Base Lodge. This makes skiing with families safer and easier (and more fun). Beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails are all easily accessible and intersect in ways that allow for splitting up & rejoining post-run. This allows families with varying ability levels to ski/ride together all day long. Plus, you don't ever have to worry about the little ones getting lost or ending up in the wrong base area. If the kids wander off on their own, they’ll be able to easily find their way back to the Base.

Skiing through the trees is good for the soul. Glade skiing allows you to challenge yourself while appreciating the natural beauty of the mountain. But your very first glade run can be daunting. At Waterville Valley, debut glade tracks are an exhilarating adventure. The Sugar Shack Glades is one of Waterville Valley's most beloved tree runs. You can find this beginner glade directly below the Sunnyside Triple, off of Valley Run (follow skier's left). With a mild slope and the trees that are evenly spaced out, this glade gives plenty of room to make turns between the trees. There are even some small jumps and technical features nestled among the birches, allowing kids to advance their skills and boost their confidence. But the best part of this glade is the Sugar Shack itself. Kids will squeal with delight skiing through Parker's Sugar Shack, a rustic, covered pass-through. Introducing young shredders to these fun, intermediate features sharpens their skills, maximizes their excitement, and boosts their confidence. Plus- there’s nothing better than seeing the look of pride on your child’s face after reaching a new level of skiing or riding!

When conditions are stellar, it can be hard to leave the mountain at the end of the day. Keep the fun going & stop into one of our slopeside venues for après-ski! Ski down to T-Bars or the Freestyle Lounge and enjoy our après events, which take place every Saturday afternoon starting at 3 pm. Families of all ages gather and recap the day's excitement while enjoying hot food, hot cocoa or cold libations, live music, raffles, and beer tastings.

Family time is sacred, and we want you to make the most of your family time out on the slopes. Whether you're looking to bond, adventure, or simply have fun, there’s no shortage of incredible family experiences here at Waterville Valley Resort.

P.S. Think Snow!
