The Plan

I know you're all wondering, "will we be skiing this weekend?" The answer is a resounding "YES," of course!

Today, the North End trails are open, but as soon as they start freezing up, glazed conditions will occur which makes for potential dangerous (and way less fun) conditions. We'll keep a close eye out and be closing trails for safety. In the mean time, take out your metal edge skis and enjoy a morning classic ski.

And here's the plan: The snow has been warm and rained on for 2 full days, but our previous snow pack was pretty dense, so we haven't lost a lot of depth. Before we can groom, the snow needs to dry out and re-freeze. With the cooling temps and winds expected today (and cold temps coming tonight through the weekend, this will happen. It would be best if we gave the snow at least 24 hrs, but with the holiday weekend and all of us needing to get out there, we will groom beginning late this afternoon.

As with any groom after a solid freeze, it will take a couple cycles to get the trails tip-top again, but we expect to have all of the North End, minus Cascades due to open water-bars, open and groomed tomorrow morning.

On the South End we will have our core trails open. Lower Fletcher's and Sloppy Joe's both held up well through yesterday, so we may be able to get them open with some shoveling, but it is likely that the water-bars will collapse as they're pretty wet right now. I'll keep you posted!

We do have a busy weekend expected and we have several things going on tomorrow:

9:00-3:00 Salomon, Atomic and Fischer Ski Demo. Try before you buy or try just because new skis are fun.

9:00-4:30 Women's Clinic. This is a great way to get started with the sport or work with our advanced instructors to improve your technique. Grab a friend and spend the day with us. Two on-snow clinics are followed by yoga and a "Wine and Wax" clinic. Second Annual Swix Trunk Sale. Call to preregister and reserve your place. We have a couple spaces left, so if you're on the fence, sign up now! We have so much fun!

Nordic Kids. Group lesson format, kids play and ski.  For ages 5-12.                     9:00-9:45 Skate                                                                                                               10:00-11:00 Intermediate Classic                                                                                  11:00 Fun Race                                                                                                                          11:15-12:00 Beginner Classic.

10:00-1130 Kris Freeman's Advanced Skate Clinic. These clinics are for intermediate and up. You don't have to keep up with Kris, but you do need to be able to ski. His clinics are a fantastic place to learn what Kris does and what you can do to move better and faster. Purchase clinic ticket and meet Kris at the Nordic Center. From there you will either begin the clinic or reconvene at the Livermore parking lot and do the clinic on the North End.

See you up here,
