August is here which can only mean one thing… Summer is fleeting and ski season will be here before we know it. It’s a bittersweet feeling, but there still is plenty of sunshine and nice weather to be had before we really start to switch gears. Pack your hiking boots, swimsuit, and enjoy these last days of summer.
The outlook for this weekend is looking comfortable and cool with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 60s making for ideal hiking conditions. Expect trails to be a little wet and muddy, and river crossings to be higher than usual since we just had a lot of rain move through the region. If you’re biking the muddy spots tend to be on the upper half section of Lower Snow’s, the middle portion of Swans Way, and on Figure 3.
WEEKEND EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Looking forward to weekend events we have the Denali Challenge kicking off on Friday evening. Hikers from all over the region will come to Waterville Valley in an attempt to conquer 20,000 feet of elevation by hiking our surrounding mountains. Think you have what it takes? You can still sign up in Town Square on Friday between 6-8pm. We’ll also be leading free guided hikes to the Cascades and Goodrich Rock if a stroll is more your speed.
Is hiking not your thing? That’s okay! We’ll also have our full lineup of activities at the Adventure Center. Hit the trails on a mountain bike, play a round of disc golf, or take the lift up Snow’s Mountain and enjoy the views. If you’re looking for a more unique Waterville Valley experience, take a Onewheel or ResortBoard tour. As always, live music will be happening in Town Square all weekend long.
