Amidst all the excitement of this international racing event, WVBBTS has not lost site of its roots here in New Hampshire dating back 75 years, taking “Homegrown” in New Hampshire to a new level throughout the NORAM Cup Finals. WVBBTS CEO and Executive Director Peter Stokloza shared with us, “WVBBTS is so proud that the NORAM Cup Finals start lists include WVBBTS’s own Waterville Valley Academy alumna Abby Fucigna (WVA 2009 and accepted at Dartmouth College), Erin Fucigna (WVA 2008 and Dartmouth College 2012) and Maddie Packard (WVA 2008 and Dartmouth College 2013). Other New Hampshire favorites on the start lists include Leanne Smith of Cranmore (a Kennett High School graduate, US Alpine Team member and Vancouver 2010 Olympian), Warren Nickerson of the Lakes Region (a New Hampton School graduate and former US Alpine Team member) and Julia Ford of Holderness (a Holderness School graduate and US Alpine Team member).
And it’s not just New Hampshire “Homegrown” athletes that will be a special part of this international competition. WVBBTS also takes great pride in sharing several other “Homegrown” in New Hampshire elements with its visitors. Top finishing athlete awards include floral bouquets supplied by Mountain Laurel Florists of Ashland, NH which will include NH native pine and birch elements (birch being the New Hampshire state tree). Another featured award for top athletes is a granite based keepsake made with granite quarried and fabricated right here in New Hampshire (the Granite State) donated by Gleason Ineson Stone Suppliers of Merrimack, NH. Artech, a 20+ year old family owned racing supply business out of Enfield, New Hampshire, which serves alpine racers nationwide, is supplying top athletes with ski tuning kits. And Wild Coyote Grill of Waterville Valley is providing a taste of some of New Hampshire’s finest cuisine at an hors d’ oeuvres reception to honor US and Canadian Ski Team athletes open to the public on Wednesday, March 17 from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. NORAM Cup Finals posters will be provided to the first 100 children for autographing by our special guests at this reception. Please rsvp at sschmidt@wvbbts.org. And many thanks also go out to the not so local sponsors like Reliable Racing and World Cup Supply for making a race of this caliber possible through on hill equipment support.
“And we can’t overlook Waterville Valley Ski Area for their support in providing us the best possible venue in New Hampshire to run GS and Slalom races for these international caliber athletes. We could not begin to ask for a better level of support than we receive from our home mountain-including Tom Day (General Manager), Rob Batchelder (Director of Operations), Eddie (our relentless on snow supporter) and the list goes on and on,” emphasized Peter Stokloza.
