The new Green Peak Triple Chair Lift is Now Open

Waterville Valley, NH, February 11, 2017 – Waterville Valley Resort held an opening ceremony of the Green Peak Triple Chair Lift today, marking a milestone in the Resort’s development and its exciting future. The new Green Peak Lift gives access to 6 new trails (30 acres) for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Over three hundred people witnessed the Opening Ceremony of the Resort’s most thrilling accomplishment in more than 40 years.

Officiating at the Opening Ceremony, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said: “We have been looking forward to this day for more than 40 years! The Green Peak Project was hard, but absolutely necessary and doable thanks to the great Waterville Valley Resort team, the U.S. Forest Service, the ownership, our investor partners, and all people who helped putting together the little pieces to open the Green Peak Expansion this year”.

“First and foremost I want to thank everyone who was involved with the Green Peak construction, the U.S. Forest Service, the State of New Hampshire, our great team of employees, the ownership for believing in our team and all the Waterville Valley Resort Family for joining this big celebration today”, - said President and General Manager of Waterville Valley Resort, Tim Smith.

The Green Peak Triple Chair Lift was originally installed 1985-1986 as the World Cup Triple and was rebuilt in 2000-2001. In 2016/17 the Lift was upgraded, it will continue to service Waterville Valley Resort as the Green Peak Triple Lift. Once fully completed, the new Green Peak will add 10 new trails (45 new acres). 

Waterville Valley Resort To Open The New Green Peak Triple Chair Lift on Saturday, February 11th

Waterville Valley, NH, February 6, 2017 – On Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. Waterville Valley Resort will celebrate the culmination of the Resort’s major Green Peak Expansion with the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting of the Green Peak Triple Chair Lift. The new Green Peak is the Resort’s biggest expansion in over 30 years and the only ski resort expansion on the East Coast this year. When completed, it will add 10 new trails (45 new acres) for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, the former Governor John H. Sununu, and the President and General Manager of Waterville Valley Resort, Tim Smith, along with hundreds of Resort employees, skiers, tourism officials, and the local public will be there to celebrate the Green Peak opening ceremony. After the welcoming address and ribbon cutting, the new Green Peak Triple chair lift will bring guests to the top of the new ski terrain.

“We are very excited to open Green Peak during Waterville Valley Resort’s 50th Anniversary Season,” said President and General Manager Tim Smith. “The Green Peak Expansion is a tremendous accomplishment for everybody who was involved in the project: the U.S. Forest Service, the local enthusiasts, the management team, and all of the Waterville Valley Resort family. Getting this project achieved is a huge step forward for Waterville Valley Resort. The expansion will provide an exciting new peak experience for the guests.”

The Green Peak Expansion project was first announced in September of 2013, with construction getting the green light this past summer. Waterville Valley Resort partnered with all local New Hampshire contractors for this project: M.E. Johnston Construction of Thornton, NH and Wade Reed Logging of Rumney provided the site work, and SkyTrans Manufacturing of Contoocook, NH installed the Green Peak Triple chair lift. Waterville Valley Resort started the Green Peak Trail Name Contest in December and will continue accepting name suggestions and the stories behind them until February 10th, 2017.
