The new Green Peak Triple Chair Lift is Now Open

Waterville Valley, NH, February 11, 2017 – Waterville Valley Resort held an opening ceremony of the Green Peak Triple Chair Lift today, marking a milestone in the Resort’s development and its exciting future. The new Green Peak Lift gives access to 6 new trails (30 acres) for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Over three hundred people witnessed the Opening Ceremony of the Resort’s most thrilling accomplishment in more than 40 years.

Officiating at the Opening Ceremony, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said: “We have been looking forward to this day for more than 40 years! The Green Peak Project was hard, but absolutely necessary and doable thanks to the great Waterville Valley Resort team, the U.S. Forest Service, the ownership, our investor partners, and all people who helped putting together the little pieces to open the Green Peak Expansion this year”.

“First and foremost I want to thank everyone who was involved with the Green Peak construction, the U.S. Forest Service, the State of New Hampshire, our great team of employees, the ownership for believing in our team and all the Waterville Valley Resort Family for joining this big celebration today”, - said President and General Manager of Waterville Valley Resort, Tim Smith.

The Green Peak Triple Chair Lift was originally installed 1985-1986 as the World Cup Triple and was rebuilt in 2000-2001. In 2016/17 the Lift was upgraded, it will continue to service Waterville Valley Resort as the Green Peak Triple Lift. Once fully completed, the new Green Peak will add 10 new trails (45 new acres). 

Waterville Valley Resort Throws a Movie Premiere

Waterville Valley, February 7, 2017 – Waterville Valley Resort announces the premiere of the 50th Anniversary Documentary “50 Years of Firsts Waterville Valley” by Degan Media. The Documentary recaps the legendary past of Waterville Valley Resort and unites the many milestones the Resort reached within the snowsports industry. The Movie Premiere Event will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center in Plymouth, NH.

“50 Years of Firsts” is a narrative which celebrates all the Resort’s great achievements and continuous progress. The movie features video clips from the Waterville Valley archives, as well as some footage which has never been seen by the public. The story is told through the eyes of the many characters that helped shape one of the true family resorts in New England and the legends of Waterville Valley: Wayne Wong, Nick Preston, Suzi Preston, Mike Bettera, and Bill Enos to name a few. Along with an encompassing historical overview, the movie captures the beauty of Waterville Valley Resort and looks forward to the expansion of the new Green Peak and beyond.

For the 50th Anniversary Movie Premiere, Waterville Valley Resort will open an exhibition where guests may browse archive pictures, learn about the Resort’s history and future, and take a picture with friends in an interactive selfie station. Commemorative 50th Anniversary Books will be presented by author and graphic designer Will Zimicki, and will be available for purchase. The event is supported by 603 Brewery Waterville Valley Wheat.

The Premiere starts a series of special showings in different locations around New Hampshire. Additional information will be provided.

Waterville Valley Resort To Open The New Green Peak Triple Chair Lift on Saturday, February 11th

Waterville Valley, NH, February 6, 2017 – On Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. Waterville Valley Resort will celebrate the culmination of the Resort’s major Green Peak Expansion with the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting of the Green Peak Triple Chair Lift. The new Green Peak is the Resort’s biggest expansion in over 30 years and the only ski resort expansion on the East Coast this year. When completed, it will add 10 new trails (45 new acres) for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, the former Governor John H. Sununu, and the President and General Manager of Waterville Valley Resort, Tim Smith, along with hundreds of Resort employees, skiers, tourism officials, and the local public will be there to celebrate the Green Peak opening ceremony. After the welcoming address and ribbon cutting, the new Green Peak Triple chair lift will bring guests to the top of the new ski terrain.

“We are very excited to open Green Peak during Waterville Valley Resort’s 50th Anniversary Season,” said President and General Manager Tim Smith. “The Green Peak Expansion is a tremendous accomplishment for everybody who was involved in the project: the U.S. Forest Service, the local enthusiasts, the management team, and all of the Waterville Valley Resort family. Getting this project achieved is a huge step forward for Waterville Valley Resort. The expansion will provide an exciting new peak experience for the guests.”

The Green Peak Expansion project was first announced in September of 2013, with construction getting the green light this past summer. Waterville Valley Resort partnered with all local New Hampshire contractors for this project: M.E. Johnston Construction of Thornton, NH and Wade Reed Logging of Rumney provided the site work, and SkyTrans Manufacturing of Contoocook, NH installed the Green Peak Triple chair lift. Waterville Valley Resort started the Green Peak Trail Name Contest in December and will continue accepting name suggestions and the stories behind them until February 10th, 2017.

Boarding For Breast Cancer Weekend

Waterville Valley Resort has raised over $50,000 in the last 11 years through this event. Boarding 4 Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation. Its mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and the value of an active lifestyle. February 11th and 12th B4BC will do the annual raffle. Everyone can participate in the Rail Jam on Sunday, registration is from 8-10am in the Base Lodge Sunroom.

Carving it up with BMW February 10-12

BMW, Waterville Valley Resort’s partner, brings the Winter xDrive Experience by hosting a series of demonstrations of their X Series vehicles. Guests can learn winter driving tips and techniques from professional drivers as they demonstrate driving on snow including manuevers for tight tuns and hills. Guests can also test drive X Series cars with a pro.

50th Anniversary Dinner

On Saturday February 25th at 5pm a special presentation of the 50th Anniversary Documentary “50 Years of Firsts” will take place at the Conference Center. A cocktail hour will start the night off followed by a delicious buffet dinner. Guests will receive a 50th commemorative gift with the purchase of their ticket.

Weekends with great comedians

Bob Marley a stand-up comic, one of the hottest and most sought-after comedians in the country will perform February 19th. Juston McKinney, born in Portsmouth, a guy who really “gets” New Hampshire humor and has over a million views on his YouTube channel, will present his show on February 24th. Both shows start at 7pm and take place at Waterville Valley Conference and Event Center.

Toyota U.S. Revolution Tour Comeback To The East Coast Was An Absolute Success

Waterville Valley, NH, January 14, 2017 – Jan.8-Jan.13 Waterville Valley Resort was hosting The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s (USSA) Toyota Revolution Tour (the Rev Tour). The Rev Tour returned to the East Coast for slopestyle competitions for freeskiing and snowboarding after a five-year hiatus.

Waterville Valley Resort was honored to be the only destination in New England to host the Rev Tour since 2012. Athletes from the United States, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Great Britain were descending upon Waterville Valley Resort’s Exhibition Park.

Great Events And Family Fun Fill The Holiday Calendar

WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH, December 26th, 2016 – With the holiday season in full swing, Waterville Valley Resort has a full slate of events and activities to delight guests during the holiday vacation, with fun for kids and adults of all ages.

On December 27th, Waterville Valley Resort’s mascot, Bruce the Moose, will throw his annual Birthday Bash, featuring cupcakes for guests and a mountain wide scavenger hunt.

December 28th is a day to mark on calendars. Waterville Valley will host Starry Nights, one of New Hampshire’s most unique dining experiences and Waterville Valley Resort’s signature event. Guests ride up the Valley Run Quad under the stars and ski or ride their way to the Sunnyside Timberlodge. After a gourmet dinner and delightful entertainment, guests will ski or ride their way down Valley Run in a torchlight parade.

On December 30th all guests are invited to join The Nordic Season Passholder Party. This is an annual event where cross country fans can get season updates and forecasts, participate in a ski waxing clinic, and check out all of the special promotions. Drinks and food will be served, and friendly atmosphere is guaranteed.

On December 31st the 50th Anniversary of Waterville Valley Resort celebration kicks off with the first event devoted to the 60’s: The Early Years. The 60’s Sweater Contest is a part of the après party in-style which starts at 4pm at T-Bars. All participants receive a Buy One Get One Lift Ticket.

All of these events take place among regular winter activities. Guests can enjoy tubing, dogsled and sleigh rides, and fireworks over the Corcoran Pond on New Year’s Eve at 7.30pm. Waterville has also extended their Saturday après this season to 6pm. In addition to live entertainment, après at Buckets will also include a movie for kids and drink specials.

Green Peak Expansion Update

The Green Peak Lift is getting a lot of work done during the Christmas week. With all the Towers up, and cross arms and the communication cable ready, the haul rope will go up this week. The hardworking crew is putting together 157 chairs, which have been re-galvanized and will look and feel like new with new aluminum back slats and cushions for seats. The max speed of the Green Peak Lift will be 1800 people per hour.

Nordic 5-0 Pass

The Adventure Center at Waterville Valley Resort is one of the few places in New Hampshire where you can try cross country skiing, snowshoeing and fat bikes all at the same place with more than 70km of groomed trails. A free Nordic Pass for the rest of the year is given automatically to guests that complete 5 lessons at the Adventure Center. Ski lessons are a specialty at Waterville Valley. The professional instructors provide the kind of coaching that not only builds skill, but a strong foundation for the future of the sport as well.

Ladies Retreat & Clinic

Unlike other Ski resorts Waterville Valley Resort doesn’t have a specific date for the ladies’ weekend. Every Friday through Sunday of January 6 till April 2, 2017 ladies are welcome for a weekend in the mountains.  This offer includes lodging, Saturday Lift ticket, Private Ladies Only Clinic and a $50 gift card for dining at one of the on mountain locations.  Ladies get a Freedom Pass featuring ice skating passes at the indoor Ice Arena, and access to the White Mountain Athletic Club’s indoor swimming pools, hot tub, sauna, and exercise facility as well as open gym activities at the recreation department. 2 nights minimum. Clinic only available Saturdays and Sundays.  Clinic minimum is 3, maximum of 6 per instructor.  

Snowsports Director Peter Weber Receives The 2016 Einar Aas Award

Waterville Valley Resort, December 5th, 2016 – Waterville Valley Resort is proud to announce that Peter Weber, Snowsports Director at Waterville Valley Resort, received the Einar Aas Award for Excellence in Snowsports School Management from the Professional Ski Instructors of American and American Association of Snowboard Instructors Eastern Division. This award recognizes dynamic leadership and achievement, the highest honor in snowsports schools throughout the country.

Peter Weber (lovingly known as Webbie) started working at Waterville Valley as a line instructor in the early 1980's, and became the Snowsports Director at Waterville Valley Resort in 1999. Weber manages more than 180 employees, oversees the alpine and snowboard rental shops, childcare, guest services, ski check, as well as all Snowsports program areas, and helps ski patrol do their end of day sweep.

“What is the secret of my success? Loving what you do. Everybody who works here loves to share the passion of sliding on snow. It isn’t an ego thing. It’s all about getting a great feeling by making somebody ski or snowboard better” – Weber comments about his outstanding career at Waterville Valley Resort.
