Updated Ski and Snowboard Events for January 2010

Waterville Valley, NH, December 14, 2009 ... This January there's an event happening every weekend at Waterville Valley.  Here's an updated look at the calendar.  

Starting Mon., January 4
Ski and Ride 2 for 1 Every Monday and Friday All Season, non-holidays.  
You can also spin the Wheel of Deals to receive a lesson, lunch, $5 lift ticket and more. Based on adult ticket prices.  

Starting Thurs., January 7 
Nordic trail passes are 2 for 1 every Thursday All Season, non-holidays.
Ski over 70 kilometers of groomed and tracked trails through the White Mountain National Forest.  The Waterville Valley Nordic Center offers rentals, lessons and retail shop.  

Sat. and Sun., January 9-10
Learn to Ski and Ride for $21 in honor of 21st Winter Olympics
Waterville Valley's Learn to Ski and Ride package includes beginner lesson plus beginner area lift ticket and rentals for the day   Learn to XC Ski for $21 Starter Kit includes a Nordic lesson plus trail fee and rentals for the day

WMUR WinterFEST for Waterville Valley's AbilityPLUS Adaptive Ski Program                 
AbilityPLUS ensures that the excitement of participating in sports and recreational activities in Waterville Valley is available to individuals with any disability. The program offers a staff of dedicated and highly trained volunteer instructors and the most up-to-date adaptive equipment available.  WinterFEST is their major fund raising event of the season.  Teams of six, featuring one celebrity and one adaptive skier race head to head on the slalom race course for a great cause.  A WinterFEST Team Dinner and Auction follow in the evening.  To register call 603-236-8311 ext. 3175.  

Transworld TransAm Snowboard  
Slopestyle for amateur riders
This is a fun, jam format slopestyle on a specially designed  course on Exhibition.  Presented by Transworld Snowboarding Magazine and High Cascade Snowboard Camp.  Registration is online only at www.highcascade.com.  

Sat., January 16
Volcom PB&J
The Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is one of the most popular annual events in Exhibition Terrain Park.  It is limited to the first 90 snowboard competitors. Register online at www.volcom.com.  Check-in opens at Waterville Valley from 8-9:00 am on 1/16/10.

Little Slammer #2 - Skiers
The Little Slam division is open to all skiers 16 and under and a great way to get into competition.  The overall point winner from the 3 events wins brand new skis.  The Big Slam has a $5 registration and is also open to all ages. At the end of the series when all the points are calculated and measured, the overall winner receives a one-year sponsorship from Waterville Valley for the 2010-2011 season. This will include a free season pass, a bio on waterville.com, free entry into all 2010-2011 WV events plus all the insider gear like sweatshirts, t-shirts, and stickers. Registration will be from 8am-10am in the Yurt.

Little Slammer #2 - Snowboarders
The Little Slam division is open to all snowboarders 16 and under and a great way to get into competition.  The overall point winner from all 3 events wins a brand new snowboard.  The Big Slam has a $5 registration and is also open to all. At the end of the series when all the points are calculated and measured, the overall winner receives a one-year sponsorship from Waterville Valley for the 2010-2011 season. This will include a free season pass, a bio on waterville.com, free entry into all 2010-2011 WV events plus all the insider gear like sweatshirts, t-shirts, and stickers. Registration will be from 8am-10am in the Events Yurt.  

Sun., January 31                                                    
New England Women's XC Ski Day
Day long event for women by women.  Participants will find XC ski clinics for every level of skier - from first-timers to seasoned masters - led by some of the best women XC ski coaches in the country. Added to these clinics will be waxing demonstrations, opportunities to demo top of the line ski equipment and clothing and lunch with some words from Olympic athlete Joan Benoit-Samuelson. The day wraps up with a short, fun 1 km relay with prizes for the top two teams in five categories - mother/daughter, sister/sister, relative/relative, friend/friend, oldies/oldies.  The event is limited to 200 participants.  Women can sign up online by 1/22/2010 at www.nensa.net

Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge  
A fun race for all ages and abilities, skiers and snowboarders. Registration will take place on the 2nd floor of the baselodge in the sunroom.

Mon.-Wed., January 18 - 20             
Waterville Women's Retreat
In its 11thth year, this program is designed by certified women coaches experienced in running successful women's clinics.  Goals are to have fun, improve skills and overcome fear of difficult terrain and conditions.  A Waterville Women's Retreat is also offered February 6-7 (Sat. & Sun.)  More details here: Waterville Women's Retreat.
